Baking Soda and Vinegar Science Experiment: Exploding Baggies

After quite a few successful explosions, Lucy used our extra materials to try out other ideas. She was busy for quite a while testing out all her ideas!

The mixing of the baking soda and vinegar are creating a chemical reaction! The two ingredients are creating carbon dioxide gas.

This reaction time reduction was significant for just a change of one ounce of vinegar. This change was not that big, considering that two fluid ounces were added since the previous trial. This evidence proved my hypothesis to be wrong. In fact, the results I got were the exact opposite of the results I hoped to get.

I think the data makes sense because when there was more vinegar, more of the baking soda could begin the reaction at a time. The experiment disproved my hypothesis since the second trial. It proved that adding more vinegar will reduce the reaction time, not increase it. Wikimedia Foundation, 04 Nov.
